On this Streetbeatz produced song, the multi-awarding recording and performing artiste shares an abstract of his life and the journey thusly, as far as his profession is concerned. As Stonebwoy—whose humility here is admirable—lists times where people thought he wouldn’t get things and enjoy a much elevated career he has now. He initiates the familiar, satisfying arc of the hero’s journey.
The song can feel heavy under the weight of Stonebwoy’s personal reflection as it finds him on real self-confident form relaying his intention to avoid bad company. The song was recorded in 2020 – a year when the world was hit by the global pandemic and a year many critic doubted Livingstone Etse Satekla’s musicianship – but lived to prove them wrong.
“1 GAD” has that infectious dancehall feeling that the world just cannot get enough of. The song is less fun – since it tackles personal issues than most of his recent projects. But the world is less fun than it was 2 or 3 years ago, too. Pairing rhythms that possess the hips with encouraging lyrics and an infectious sense of self-reliance, ‘1 GAD’ is Herculean.

Ghanaian star Stonebwoy is back in the new year with a music video even cooler than his last. The visuals for “Motion,” another standout track from his latest album Anloga Junction featuring Jamaican superstar Jahmiel, came out this week, and the action packed video definitely matches the energies of the Afro-Caribbean duo. The two star as bulletproof-vest clad spies, while a multi-talented army of women helps them rescue victims from an armed basement.
Watch Stonebwoy and Jahmiel save the day in the music video “Motion” below.
On “Activate,” Nigeria meets Ghana as Davido and Stonebwoy join forces for the first time. Together, the duo mixes their familiar cocktail of Afrobeats, Dancehall, and Reggae influences to craft an uptempo ode to casual flirtation.
“Mi I wanna keep her but she be cheater/Me I wan no relationship,” Davido croons on the cut.
The lighthearted nature of the track finds its roots in a spontaneous weekend trip from Nigeria to Ghana on Davido’s end, birthing the two African superstars’ latest concoction. Both men don’t stray far from their catalogs’ mainframe: feel good outputs to score moments of aural escape.
“The inspiration behind this song is to activate positive energy,” Stonebwoy says in a statement. “To activate love and to activate on the dance floor and see the combination of Afrobeats and Dancehall take over the world.”
In recent time. Davido and Stonebwoy have made a point not to contradict such a declaration. In Davido’s case, the Nigerian has been an outspoken proponent of the #ENDSARS movement while Stonebwoy spearheaded a march in his native Ghana to promote peace and unity among citizens.
