Ghanaian musician, Stonebwoy, has been named in Spotify’s “BIG SIX” artistes of the year 2022 list.
The annual list, published on August 4th, celebrates outstanding musicians who breaking barriers and hoisting the flag of Ghana with their musical talent. Its release coincides with this year’s Founders’ Day celebration in Ghana, which honors the “Big Six” who toiled for the country’s independence.
“Every year, we take a day off our busy schedules to reflect on the sacrifices and contributions of Kwame Nkrumah, Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, Edward Akufo-Addo, Joseph Boakye Danquah, Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey and William Ofori-Atta in the fight for independence. As the country marks Founders’ Day this year, Spotify has identified some Ghanaian musicians who are making inroads in Ghana’s music scene. These six Ghanaian musicians are breaking barriers and lifting the flag of Ghana high with their music,” Spotify said in a statement.
Stonebwoy’s illustrious global career has made him one of the most popular and distinct voices in Africa and around the world, making him an influential figure of the Ghanaian musical landscape. Since his debut in 2009, he has had a stellar music career, releasing four magnificent-case study albums and garnering impressive physical and digital sales, with many hit songs throughout Africa.
He boasts a career that transcends language, geography, and demographics and he is rated as one of the best reggae and dancehall artistes from Africa. He is widely credited for pioneering and elevating Afrodancehall music into a global cultural, which has fueled an explosion in popularity for African reggae and dancehall scene.
On May 03, Universal Music Group (UMG) announced the signing of the Ghanaian artiste to its label divisions Def Jam Recordings, 0207 Def Jam and Def Jam Africa. The announcement came paired with the release of his debut label single “Therapy” across all streaming platforms and its accompanying red-hot video shot in Ghana.
Stonebwoy has been confirmed as the headlining act at this year’s edition of the African Music Festival.
The inclusion of the 2015 BET Award winner and four-time Best African Reggae/Dancehall artiste of the year into the Germany-based festival lineup is part of his ongoing Therapy Summer 2022 festival tour, which follows his appearances at seven international music festivals earlier this year, most notably Planet Afropunk Live in the United States and City Splash Festival in the United Kingdom.
Stonebwoy heads to Emmendingen on Saturday, August 6th, days after delivering a candidly illustrious and compelling performance at the just ended Uppsala Music Festival and subsequently closing out the festival with joint performances with Morgan Heritage and The Gentleman. He is expected to bring his impressive catalog and take audiences on an artistic journey across the world with his highly rated performances.
Now in its 20th edition, the music programme will be enriched by a fashion show, a street parade, an interfaith service, dance workshops and readings, as well as a handicraft programme for children. There will also be delicious African cuisine and the Afro World Bazaar with clothing, fabrics, handicrafts, accessories, jewellery, decorations and much more.
The Ghanaian Reggae, Dancehall, and Afrobeats musician is currently on tour in Europe and America with his ‘Therapy Summer 2022 Tour.’ The tour, which is in support of his latest music “Therapy” release via Universal Music Group / Def Jam label, will take him to eight different cities across Europe. He has previously performed at the Summer Jam Festival and the Afrobeats Festival in Germany.
Stonebwoy continued his Therapy 2022 summer tour last weekend, headlining Sweden for this year’s Uppsala Reggae Festival.
On Friday (July 29), the Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste delivered an epic headliner set, eliciting a diverse range of feelings from the invigorated crowd as he performed songs from his discography. Commencing with “Tomorrow” and ramping up the energy with notable reggae songs, 1 GAD ran through songs from different eras of his career before concluding with his most recent releases.
Minutes after his set, he returned to join renowned reggae artiste, The Gentleman, on stage to close out the first night of the two day festival. On Saturday, July 30, he was brought back by Grammy winning reggae band Morgan Heritage for a joint rendition of their song “Africa & Jamaica”.
This year’s performance marked his second Uppsala Reggae Festival appearance since his one-for-the-books festival debut in 2019. Best known for his perfectly smooth musical ability as well as his unparalleled showmanship, he created the unique ambience that has made the carnival well-known and well-liked around the world.
Stonebwoy’s addition to the Uppsala Reggae Festival lineup is part of his all-new Therapy Summer 2022 festival tour, which was announced in June, and is the eighth festival he has confirmed to perform at this year. According to his tour schedule, he will be headlining the Africa Music Festival on August 6th in Germany.
UPDATED: Stonebwoy has announced date for the grand return of this year’s edition of Ashaiman To The World Festival (previously known as the Ashaiman To The World Concert).
Now in its 7th edition, the event has earned recognition as one of the most popular and largest artist-led free music festivals in Africa that celebrates arts, culture and music in his native town Ashaiman. This year’s edition is scheduled for its ritual venue ‘Saka Saka Park’, Ashaiman on September 3, 2022, after being postponed twice due to coronavirus concerns.
Following the success of the 2019 edition, which drew 100,000 people, this year’s edition will be a week-long celebration. The event will come paired with variety of options, including sporting activities, arts & cultural displays, health care events, that will prelude the main music night.
The concert night, like previous editions, will bring together local residents and visitors from around the world to experience incredible music performances at Ashaiman’s iconic Saka Saka Park. Once again, Stonebwoy hopes to shine a spotlight on the town and its people that helped shape him into the successful and creative artist he is today.
The last edition of Ashaiman To The World Festival was held in November of 2019 at its ritual venue. The event saw the Sakasaka Park in Ashaiman parked with patrons who trooped there to see their favourite acts perform. The event set the record as the most attended outdoor event in Ghana with over 100,000 thousand attendees.

Halfway through his performance, Stonebwoy switched up the energy in the auditorium with some Afro-fusion songs. He delivered a pleasantly invigorating performance of the 2020 Davido-assisted songs “Activate”, “Everlasting”, “Sobolo”, “Nominate” (featuring renowned American singer Keri Hilson), “Putuu Freestyle” and the latest song of the summer, “Therapy”.
The standout moment of the evening came when he was joined on stage by his two adorable children. The audience was entertained by their rendition of “Therapy.” Stonebwoy’s performance on the night drew a standing ovation from the entire audience.
Tecno Mobile announced on Thursday (May 5) that it had renewed its ambassadorial deal with Stonebwoy. The news was confirmed during a press conference held in Accra by Uninversal Music Group and DefJam Records, which announced the Ghanaian musician as the latest African artist to be signed to the global record label. He was first announced as the brand’s ambassador in 2020, when the phone company released its Camon 16 series. It was renewed in 2021, just in time for the company’s Phantom X series to premiere.
Coming off an impressive performance at the Front/Back Garden in Accra, afro-fusion artiste, Camidoh, was the night’s guest performer.
He gave an enthralling performance of his chart-topping star-studded single “SUGARCANE” remix and an upbeat rendition of his Kwesi Arthur-assisted wedding themed song “Dance With Me”. Ghanaian star Stonebwoy has announced dates and destinations for his newly-announced Therapy Summer tour, scheduled to take place this summer.
The fully packed stretch of dates will kick off with the Trace Made In Africa Festival in Porto on June 24 and span through August 13, where the multiple award-winner will wrap with a performance at the Reggae Sundance Festival in Eindhoven.
