When it comes to recording his vocals, there’s only one microphone Stonebwoy trusts: his bright orange Shure SM7B.
“I was feeling the weight,” he says of the first time he used the mic. “That’s how I can describe it: like there’s some weight and some depth and some quality of voice that you get from this microphone.”
The Ghanaian musician carries the “powerhouse” mic with him everywhere he goes, so he can lay down an idea whenever inspiration strikes. “It gives you a crisp sound,” he adds, “and also, it does capture my voice in a way that I appreciate — there’s some truth with it…I feel good when it’s able to interpret what I’m putting into it emotionally.”
Stonebwoy’s technical gear has certainly come a long way from his early days of experimenting, when he’d steal his dad’s tape recorder and record on cassettes with his friends.
“Those tapes had music or, probably, messages, you know, ’cause he was a church man. So he has preaching on tapes and stuff,” the Afropop artist recalls of his father. “Now he plays side A and the preaching plays nice; plays side B and there’s [imitates thumping music.]

After nearly one month of his hugely successful “5th Dimension” 2023 USA and Canada tour, international reggae, dancehall, & afrobeats composer and performer Stonebwoy is back on the road for his all-new “5th Dimension” Australia, UK, and Europe Tour.
On Friday, September 29, the Ghanaian-born entertainer brought his sold-out “5th Dimension” world tour to Doug Jennings Park on the Gold Coast, marking the first of three shows scheduled to take place in Australia this Autumn. Stonebwoy performed before a capacity crowd of over 20,000 fans at the 2023 Promiseland Festival, making a triumphant return to touring in Australia since the 2016 “Go High Tour”.
The BET award-winner’s performance was a carefully curated journey through his illustrious career, seamlessly transitioning from soulful tunes to hard-hitting anthems. He delivered a performance with a setlist that spanned his entire solo catalog. However, he performed nearly every song from the new “5th Dimension” album, including the hit singles “Into the Future”, “Activate”, “My Sound”, “Life and Money”, “Therapy”, “Manodzi,” featuring 5x Grammy Award-winning singer Angelique Kidjo, and “Non Stop.”
Stonebwoy’s headlining “5th Dimension” Australia tour continues on Sunday, October 1st, in Perth at the Metro City, which is already sold out, before working its way through some iconic venues in Europe and the UK over the course of October.
The “5th Dimension” world tour also includes an extensive run of Europe and UK dates: Stonebwoy will perform in Brescia, Italy, on October 14th, Amsterdam, Netherlands, on October 15th, and a trio of performances in Berlin, Hamburg, and Dusseldorf, Germany, on October 19th, 20th, and 21st, respectively. It continues in the UK on October 26th in Manchester and Birmingham on October 27th, with a concluding date set for October 29th at London’s Electric Brixton.
The “5th Dimension” world tour supports Stonebwoy’s 2023 album of the same name. Widely hailed as a career-best, the album was acclaimed for its pivot to African and Caribbean styles such as afrobeats, reggae, dancehall, amapiano, folk, and other styles while leaning primarily toward pop-related themes. The album, which showcases the artist’s evolution and growth, pushing boundaries and delving into uncharted musical territories, debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard World Reggae Album Charts.
Grammy-nominated, multiple award-winning Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy releases his most prestigious video to date for the brand new single, Manodzi, featuring 5 x Grammy Award winning singer Angélique Kidjo.
Directed by Ghanaian filmmaker, director and cinematographer, Yaw Skyface, the video was shot on location at the palatial Chateaux Bouffémont in the Bouffémont commune in France. Dating back to 1860, the chateaux provides the perfect backdrop for the video’s sweeping introduction, setting the scene for the true African royal experience taking place within its walls.
The video reflects the message behind the single Manodzi well. Referred to as Stonebwoy as the ‘root’ of his 5th Dimension album, the track is aptly placed last in track-listing. But it also has a deeper meaning concerning where Stonebwoy feels he is going in life and urges listeners to take comfort in the meaning.
The song simply means, ’keeping on’, whilst working hard to achieve one’s dreams. “I call it the last, but not least track on the album”, he states, because its uplifting message drives the listener to remember where they come from and where they are going – and getting to work with Angélique Kidjo has been a dream for Stonebwoy since the beginning of his career.
“It was an honour to work with Ms. Kidjo”, he respectfully states. “She is like a mother to me and Africa at large”. Kidjo is a multi-faceted singer, actor and activist and well-known for her immensely diverse approach to African sounds. Through Manodzi she expanded further by contributing vocals sung in the Ewe language, one that is not her native tongue. It is also her first feature outside of her primary language, which fans are finding particularly poignant. The internet has exploded with love for the track, with social platforms and react videos calling it Stonebwoy’s most spiritual track to date, proving that the collaboration resonates with listeners regardless of language.
The video itself is without a doubt one of the finest cinematic experiences that Stonebwoy has released in his career. Produced by London-based Casey Kobia, the crew and cast pulled out all the stops to produce one of the finest African music videos to date. It instils the sense that Stonebwoy is taking his rightful place amongst leaders in the African music industry, and with Ms. Kidjo making an appearance in the video alongside him, it is the perfect culmination of years of dreams and hard work paying off.
Stonebwoy has announced a show at the Electric Brixton in London, United Kingdom (UK), on Sunday, October 29. The show forms part of his all-new “5th Dimension” Australia, Europe, and UK autumn 2023 tour.

The new show at London’s Electric Brixton will be the BET award-winning afropop, reggae, and dancehall singer’s final destination on his Australia, Europe, and UK tour routes, which will begin later this month in Queensland, Australia on September 30 at the Promiseland Festival.

Angelique is an institution of African music all the way through the diaspora … It just shows that, gradually, a boy like me is growing in the realms of people who are institutions.”
